The National Council on Aging (NCOA) recognizes the week of September 18th through 22nd as National Falls Prevention Awareness Week (NFPW). Although the week has already passed, it is extremely important to note its significance throughout every portion of the year. This nationwide health campaign raises awareness that elderly falls are not a normal aspect of aging. Falls are preventable with the correct tools and knowledge, making the year’s theme “From Awareness to Action.”

Age Well promotes fall prevention through educated statewide programming. Along with this, Age Well, The Arthritis Foundation, and the CDC endorse Tai Chi as an evidence-based health program that reduces stiffness and pain, keeping joints mobile.

Age Well also offers Home Medication Assessment through the HomeMeds program, an in-home medication assessment tool that identifies risks and ensures that current medications are being appropriately taken and updated.

GetSetUp is another partner with Age Well that offers an online learning channel for Vermont residents sixty and older with free access to live interactive online classes taught by older adults for adults.
