PRESS RELEASE

CANTON, GA (August 29, 2023) – History Cherokee announces FREE Admission Saturday on September 9. On this day, admission to the Cherokee County History Center is free for all guests. This Free Admission Saturday is sponsored by Chamberhouse Fine Gifts.

The Cherokee County History Center opened in November 2022 and is operated by History Cherokee. Guests to the History Center learn about the history of Cherokee County beginning in prehistoric times through contemporary times. Each of the six galleries contains interactive features suitable for guests of all ages. In addition to touch screens to learn about periods in Cherokee County’s history, guests can try their hand at tracing patterns found on Native American pottery sherds, view pictures through a stereoscope, find out what it feels like to sit in an actual stockcar from the Dixie Speedway, and more. Guests can also view History Cherokee’s award-winning documentary, “The Way it Was: Stories of Cherokee County’s Desegregation.”

In the temporary exhibit gallery, guests can view “Business is Boomin’: Historic Community Businesses.” This exhibit highlights many of the businesses that have served as the backbone of Cherokee County’s economy throughout the county’s history.

The Cherokee County History Center is located in downtown Canton at 221 E. Marietta Street. There is plenty of parking on site, but additional parking can be found across the street at the Downtown Canton Parking Deck at City Hall.

The Cherokee County History Center will be open regular Saturday hours on September 9, which are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
