CANTON, GA (Dec. 20, 2023) – The Cherokee County Special Olympics DanceSport team performed a dance routine to “Run, Run Rudolph” at The G. Cecil Pruett Community Center Family YMCA in Canton on Saturday, December 16.
The team performed before Louis Van Amstel—three-time Dance World Champion, Dancing with the Stars Pro, and Special Olympics Ambassador of DanceSport—who was on hand to teach a Holiday LaBlast Fitness Master Class. The team received a standing ovation from Louis, the LaBlast Master Trainers and students, along with the dancers’ families and friends.
Laura Mikszan—head coach of the Warrior Cats DanceSport team, Master LaBlast trainer, and the founder of non-profit Fitfully Forward, Inc.—and Louis championed for DanceSport to become a Special Olympics sport in the state of Georgia and succeeded with Cherokee County having the first sanctioned Special Olympics DanceSport team in the state.
At the completion of the performance, the BridgeMill Ladies Golf Association, represented by board members Karyn Haydock and Amy Davidson along with LGA member Di Brown, presented a $400 donation check to Fitfully Forward, Inc. earmarked for the DanceSport team.
Fitfully Forward ensures the underserved populations in our community. Through Fitfully Forward, individuals with special needs, adults on the Autism spectrum, under-privileged children & families, the aging population, and Veterans receive opportunities for fitness and dance to improve overall health.
The Cherokee County Special Olympics DanceSport team welcomes the public to attend the first Georgia DanceSport Invitational/Showcase on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at River Ridge High School.
